Review: Topicals FADED

After years of having relatively clear skin throughout college with a few whiteheads here and there, my skin totally turned on me not long after moving to Los Angeles and keeping it clear has been a near-constant battle ever since.

Mainly, I experience hormonal breakouts around my chin and mouth area which love to leave pesky marks behind that are even worse than the actual blemish because they stay around WAY longer. Introducing FADED by Topicals ($38 for 1.7 fl oz), one of very few products that has actually done what it claims without irritating my skin.

My skin on December 20, no filters, editing, or products.

Topicals’ Faded uses a powerhouse of key ingredients to balance tone, smooth texture, and brighten the skin:

  • Tranexamic Acid // prevents melanocyte (pigment cell) activation

  • Azelaic acid // prevents tyrosine conversion to melanin

  • Niacinamide // refines pores and excess oil

  • Kojic Acid // mildly exfoliates skin

  • Licorice Root // breaks down deposits of excess pigment

  • Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract // accelerates wound healing

  • Melatonin // limits melanocyte stimulation

My skin on November 22, no filters or editing, just eye makeup.

Of course, this product is also vegan, cruelty-free, fragrance-free, and dye-free. ICYMI, it’s also founded by two young women of color!

I’m not going to lie, Faded doesn’t smell pretty. To me, it smells a bit like OG Nair and gives some flashbacks to middle school, but the results make it all worth it. I’ve DEFINITELY seen that many of my dark spots have faded over the past month with consistent use about 5-6 times per week. I believe they recently gave this tube an upgrade to make it “less stinky,” and I’m looking forward to seeing how that compares when my current serum has run its course.

Not only does Topicals know how to make a fantastic product (I have no doubt Like Butter, their second product, is also a winner), but they also give back! 1% of profits go to mental health movements, to help raise awareness around the connection between skin and mental health.

Give Olamide and Claudia — the amazing founders behind this brand — a listen on Gloss Angeles, one of my favorite podcasts.
